Palabras de difícil traducción al inglés – Letra A

Todos los que alguna vez nos hemos aventurado a traducir o traspasar términos de español a inglés sabemos que no siempre disponemos del equivalente unívoco en un idioma y otro y ahí empieza la búsqueda de correspondencias de acuerdo con los distintos usos. A continuación, una primera lista de algunos términos que hemos investigado a lo largo de años de trabajo, con su traducción y usos posibles:

Abordar (un tema): tackle or deal with a problem, a topic, an issue.

Aclarar (un concepto/problema): to clarify a concept or problem / to shed light on a problem /throw light on a problem.

Adecuado:

• Suitable (for a purpose or occasion): suitable for the job or position/suitable environment/ suitable outfit for the office.
• Adequate (enough to meet a purpose, having the necessary qualities for something, meeting the requirements of a task): methods adequate to meet the current needs/ adequate clothing for climate changes/ adequate salary/ adequate preparation for the course.
• Appropriate (suitable for a particular person, place or condition):  A movie not appropriate for preteens/an appropriate content of the site /tests appropriate to students’ needs.
• Fit (to have the appropriate qualities or skills, meeting adequate standards for a purpose): a bicycle fit for the road / food not fit for human consumption/ a fit subject for discussion with children/fit words in fit places.
• Proper (something correct or most suitable, describing things considered satisfactory): proper job / proper behavior / proper manners /proper medical treatment /everything in the proper place.

Ambiente (entorno, condiciones, medio ambiente):

• Environment: Children learned in a safe and secure environment./working environment (ambiente de trabajo).
• Atmosphere: There was an atmosphere of success in the class.

Ámbito (alcance, marco, rango, campo de acción):

• Field (particular subject of study or type of activity): a growing the academic field, business field strategies.
• Sphere (particular area of activity or interest): all spheres of endeavor /spheres of life /the sphere of internal politics.
• Environment (The area in which something exists or lives): local, national environment /the working environment values. creativity and innovation/ achievements and developments within the business environment.
